The Latest …

Motorola is preparing to unveil its inaugural flagship smartphone of 2023 in India on May 23, following the launch of several budget and mid-range devices. Known as the Motorola Edge 40, this phone positions itself between last year's Motorola Edge 30 Pro and Edge 30 Fusion, at least in terms of specifications. Prior to the launch, the company has already established an official page on Flipkart, which provides insights into some key specifications and the phone's design. The Flipkart listing showcases a green variant with a faux leather-like covering, while customers will have the option to choose between black and blue color variants.

The official poster unveils a curved display with a hole-punch cutout to accommodate the selfie camera. Motorola is also enhancing the refresh rate to 144Hz, aiming for a swifter and more seamless scrolling and gaming experience. It has been confirmed that the Motorola Edge 40 boasts an in-display fingerprint scanner with a 6.5-inch display. The company employs a pOLED panel with 100% DCI-P3 color gamut and HDR10+ support. Similar to popular OLED and AMOLED technologies, pOLED delivers deep blacks. Furthermore, pOLED is relatively lightweight and contributes to the phone's sleek design.

The Motorola Edge 40 stands as the first Motorola smartphone to incorporate MediaTek's Dimensity 8020 SoC. Its predecessor, the Motorola Edge 30 Pro, featured Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset. The MediaTek chipset is paired with up to 256GB UFS 3.1 storage and 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM. As with previous Edge models, the camera capabilities are expected to be a focal point for the Motorola Edge 40. The Flipkart page reveals a 50-megapixel primary camera on the rear with optical image stabilization (OIS) support, which aids in capturing more stable videos and photos. Additionally, there will be a 13-megapixel ultra-wide camera that doubles as a macro shooter. Motorola provides a similar capability with the ultra-wide camera on the Edge 30 Pro and Edge 30 Fusion. The front of the device features a 32-megapixel front-facing camera sensor.

Powering the Motorola Edge 40 is a 4,440mAh battery with 68W wired charging support. The smartphone also offers 15W fast charging, which remains uncommon in many Android devices. Motorola emphasizes the clean Android UI experience on the Edge 40. The phone comes pre-installed with Android 13, enabling users to enjoy the latest productivity and privacy features of the Android operating system. Furthermore, the phone is expected to receive the Android 14 OS update, although the exact timeline remains uncertain.

While the price of the Motorola Edge 40 has yet to be confirmed, based on the specifications, it is anticipated to be priced around Rs 45,000. Presently, the Motorola Edge 30 Fusion starts at Rs 39,999, while the Edge 30 Ultra is priced at Rs 49,999.
