India will host its first MotoGP World Championship race next year at the Buddha International Circuit in Greater Noida, the organizers announced on Friday.
The track hosted the Formula 1 Indian Grand Prix for three consecutive years from 2011 to 2013 before closing due to financial, tax and bureaucratic constraints.
Citing 1.4 billion people and more than 200 million motorcyclists, organizers said India represents a key market for the expansion of the sport.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said, "Uttar Pradesh is very proud to host such a global event."
MotoGP is a top-level competition of motorcycle road racing events held on a road circuit under the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM).
